    A Ertebølle, tra il 1893 e il 1897, fu scoperto ed esaminato archeologicamente il “Køkkenmødding”, uno dei più grandi cumuli di rifiuti preistorici (cumuli di conchiglie) del Nord Europa. Oltre a innumerevoli resti di cibo, conteneva numerosi reperti risalenti a più di 6.000 anni fa. Il sito sulla sponda orientale del Limjorden dà il nome alla cultura mesolitica di Ertebølle (ca. dal 5100 al 4100 a.C.).
