Alla fine del 18° secolo, il castello di Weinzierl passò in possesso degli Asburgo imperiali.
Nel 1883 il castello fu ceduto all'"Associazione per l'asilo Kaiser Franz Joseph" che vi allestirono una casa per orfani. Dopo che questo uso fu più o meno interrotto dopo la prima guerra mondiale, il Francisco Josephinum si trasferì nel castello di Weinzierl nel 1934.
