    Il castello di Wernstein è uno dei più bei castelli dell'Alta Franconia ed è di proprietà della famiglia von Künsberg da oltre 600 anni. Purtroppo il castello non è visitabile dall'interno, ma anche la vista del magnifico castello in stile rinascimentale dall'esterno è assolutamente impressionante.

    Nel 1370 i signori di Künßberg costruirono una casa “stabile” sul cono basaltico di Bärenstein (o Bernstein), da cui in seguito si sviluppò l'odierno castello. Solo tra il 1764 e il 1793 il signore del castello fece costruire qui per i suoi servi un insediamento di 11 “case di raccolta”, da cui si sviluppò l'odierna città di Wernstein.
