    L'escursione attraverso un Hutewald è sempre qualcosa di molto speciale. In autunno, gli agricoltori guidavano i loro maiali nei boschi in modo che potessero nutrirsi di uno spesso strato di grasso. Oggi i maiali restano nella stalla, ma esistono ancora molti Hutewald. Gli alberi secolari e nodosi con le loro chiome allargate sono magnifici monumenti naturali.

    La riserva naturale si trova a est di Haren (Ems) tra Emmeln e Tinnen. Protegge una vecchia faggeta con alcuni alberi molto vecchi. Nella foresta, che un tempo veniva pascolata come una foresta di capanne, c'è molto legno morto e ci sono molte cavità negli alberi.
