The Otto Kandler-Haus is a traditional mountain hut nestled at an elevation of 1165 metres atop the 1195-meter-high Hohenstein in the scenic Türnitzer Alps of Lower Austria. This charming refuge, owned by the St. Pölten section of the Austrian Alpine Club (ÖAV), offers a rustic and authentic mountain experience between the picturesque Pielach and Traisental valleys. It serves as a welcoming stop for hikers exploring this beautiful region of Austria.

    La casa fu costruita nel 1905 dalla Società alpina “D'Ennsecker” e prese il nome dal suo presidente Otto Kandler. Nel frattempo la società si è sciolta e dal 1955 la baita è di proprietà della sezione del Club Alpino di St. Pölten. La casa è amorevolmente curata dai suoi responsabili (da inizio maggio a fine ottobre, solo nei fine settimana) e offre 35 posti letto. Vale la pena farci una sosta in estate per le prelibatezze che offre e per il vero paradiso escursionistico che lo circonda.

    Il rifugio è aperto nei fine settimana durante la stagione estiva - da inizio maggio a fine ottobre. Ottima ospitalità, anche se arrivate verso la fine dell'orario di apertura! Al di fuori degli orari di apertura c'è una stanza per la notte, le bevande sono fornite.
