    Domande frequenti

What are the current entrance fees and boat tour costs for Martvili Canyon Waterfalls?

As of May 2025, the entrance fee for Martvili Canyon Waterfalls was 25 Lari. An optional boat ride, which takes you to parts of the canyon not accessible on foot, cost an additional 20 Lari. Many visitors find the boat ride well worth the experience.

How long does it typically take to explore Martvili Canyon Waterfalls?

Most visitors spend between 1.5 to 2.5 hours exploring Martvili Canyon. This usually includes walking the 700-meter circular trail and taking the 15-minute boat ride. The total time can vary depending on how much time you spend at viewpoints and taking photos.

Is Martvili Canyon Waterfalls accessible by public transport?

While there isn't a direct public bus service to the canyon's entrance, you can reach the nearby town of Martvili by marshrutka (minibus) from Kutaisi. From Martvili town, it's a short taxi ride (about 10 minutes) to the canyon's visitor center in Gachedili village. Many visitors opt for organized tours or private transfers from Kutaisi or Tbilisi for convenience.

Is Martvili Canyon Waterfalls wheelchair accessible?

The walking trail at Martvili Canyon is paved with stones and includes some steps, such as the 30-step historic limestone staircase. While the visitor center and initial sections might be manageable, the full 700-meter circular trail and the boat tour may present challenges for wheelchair users due to uneven surfaces and stairs. It's best to contact the visitor center directly for the most up-to-date accessibility information.

Are dogs allowed at Martvili Canyon Waterfalls?

Information regarding dog-friendliness is not explicitly stated in the available data. Generally, natural monuments and protected areas in Georgia may have restrictions on pets to protect wildlife and maintain the environment. It's advisable to check with the official visitor center or the nationalparks.ge website before planning a visit with your dog.

What is the best time of year to visit Martvili Canyon to avoid crowds?

Martvili Canyon can get quite crowded, especially during peak tourist season (summer) and on weekends. To avoid the largest crowds, consider visiting during the shoulder seasons (spring or autumn) or on weekdays. Arriving early in the morning, right when the canyon opens, is also a good strategy to experience a more peaceful visit before the main rush.

What should I wear and bring for a visit to Martvili Canyon Waterfalls?

Given the high humidity and potential for mist from the waterfalls, comfortable, water-resistant clothing and sturdy walking shoes with good grip are recommended. Even on sunny days, the canyon can be cooler and damp. Don't forget a camera for the stunning views, and perhaps a light jacket or raincoat, especially if visiting during cooler months or if rain is in the forecast.

Are there any cafes or restaurants near Martvili Canyon Waterfalls?

Yes, there are typically small cafes and souvenir shops located near the visitor center of Martvili Canyon where you can purchase refreshments and light snacks. For more substantial meals, you would need to venture into the nearby town of Martvili, which offers a selection of local eateries.

Is wild swimming permitted in Martvili Canyon or the surrounding area?

Wild swimming is generally not permitted within the main Martvili Canyon area, particularly in the sections accessible by boat or walking trail, due to safety regulations and the desire to preserve the natural environment. The waters are primarily for the guided boat tours. There are no designated wild swimming spots mentioned in the immediate vicinity.

What are the main differences between Martvili Canyon and Okatse Canyon?

Both Martvili and Okatse Canyons are popular natural attractions in Georgia, but they offer different experiences. Martvili Canyon is known for its emerald-green waters, boat tours through a narrow gorge, and lush, moss-covered scenery. It's generally considered more accessible and family-friendly with a relatively short walking trail. Okatse Canyon, on the other hand, is famous for its dramatic cliff-hanging walkway, offering breathtaking panoramic views from high above the gorge. It's a more adventurous experience, focusing on heights and expansive vistas rather than water-level exploration.

What kind of wildlife can be seen at Martvili Canyon Waterfalls?

Martvili Canyon is characterized by its lush vegetation and unique geological formations. While specific large wildlife sightings are not commonly highlighted, visitors can expect to see various bird species, insects, and small amphibians thriving in the humid, verdant environment. The focus is primarily on the botanical beauty and the geological features of the canyon.
