    La riserva è stata istituita per proteggere e preservare un'area di grande valore geologico. Nel 2007 la decisione e il piano di gestione della riserva sono stati rivisti. Oggi va favorita anche la vita all'aria aperta e la creazione di nuovi habitat per specie meritevoli di protezione, abbinata a pinete sabbiose aperte con lembi di sabbia esposti al sole e pinete grossolane soleggiate.
