La struttura precedente, il ponte Altmühltor, dovette lasciare il posto all'espansione dell'Altmühl fino al canale Meno-Danubio. Il ponte pedonale è stato costruito qui tra il 1986 e il 1988. È stato il primo ponte sospeso unilaterale con trave curva.
