    Nel XVI secolo era considerata la piazza più bella del Sacro Romano Impero della Nazione Tedesca e ancora oggi rimane un soggetto fotografico popolare a Francoforte: il Römerberg. Il suo nome deriva dalla casa "Zum Römer", che ospita il municipio dal XV secolo. Il complesso del municipio comprende diversi edifici con frontoni gotici a gradoni e ospita la famosa Sala Imperiale con i ritratti di tutti i 52 imperatori del Sacro Romano Impero; dal 1612 in poi, qui si tenevano i banchetti per l'incoronazione. Anche la Fontana della Giustizia nella piazza è un importante punto di riferimento.
