    La notevole chiesa fortificata tra le tante in Transilvania è senza dubbio Tartlau. L'inclusione nella Lista del Patrimonio Mondiale dell'UNESCO lo conferma in modo straordinario. È il castello più grande e più pesantemente fortificato, il che è sicuramente dovuto al fatto che Tartlau è il comune più orientale della Transilvania ed è stato quindi il primo ad essere esposto alle orde di invasori.

    Un magnifico castello cistercense. La più grande chiesa fortificata della Transilvania. L'ordine cavalleresco tedesco iniziò la sua costruzione intorno al 1218. Dopo l'invasione mongola nel 1241, il complesso del castello fu massicciamente ampliato dai Sassoni della Transilvania. Particolarmente impressionanti sono le camere abitative costruite una accanto all'altra e una sopra l'altra come favi all'interno delle mura del castello. Quando c'era pericolo, gli abitanti del villaggio fuggivano qui con tutti i loro averi. C'erano anche una scuola, un laboratorio e una panetteria.
