    Wilhelm Albrecht riconobbe rapidamente il vento, che spazzava gli altipiani allora aridi e portava via il terriccio, come una delle cause dei bassi raccolti nel Westerwald. Per proteggere i seminativi dal vento fece realizzare le cosiddette siepi protettive (strisce di abeti rossi), che caratterizzano oggi il paesaggio dell'altopiano del Renneroder. In onore di Wilhelm Albrecht, nel 1879 a Emmerchenhain fu costruito un monumento per commemorare il salvatore del Westerwald.
