Dal 1871 al 1883 il luogo si chiamava Ancen sulla Mosella, poi Ancy sulla Mosella. Nel 1915-1918 e nel 1940-1944 il nome fu germanizzato in Anzig. Il luogo fu gravemente distrutto durante la liberazione nel settembre 1944.
A partire dal 1° gennaio 2016, i comuni di Ancy-sur-Moselle e Dornot sono stati fusi per formare un nuovo comune denominato Ancy-Dornot. Il comune di Ancy-sur-Moselle apparteneva al circondario di Metz e al cantone di Les Coteaux de Moselle.
