Nel XVII secolo il complesso fu trasformato in un palazzo in stile rinascimentale Lipper.Haus Nehlen fu menzionato per la prima volta nel 1268. Il castello serviva probabilmente a proteggere il confine settentrionale della contea di Rüdenberg.
