The lake is typically open from May through October, which is generally the best time to visit. For fishing, the period from April to October is prime, especially for rainbow trout stocking. Hiking is pleasant throughout the open season, with spring offering lush greenery and fall showcasing beautiful foliage. For those seeking less crowded trails, visiting on weekdays or during the shoulder seasons (late spring, early fall) is recommended.

What is the historical significance of Jenks Lake?

Jenks Lake is a man-made lake with a rich history dating back to the 1860s. It was constructed by Captain Lester Shaw Jenks, who built a dam and dug a ditch to divert water from the Santa Ana River. Initially, Jenks intended to use the pond for raising fish for sale. By 1879, it was reportedly the largest fish pond in California, and the area also holds significance due to its Native American heritage and early explorers.
