    La Chiesa di San Salvatore ha un nucleo romanico del XII secolo. Dal Medioevo, la Chiesa di San Salvatore è stata un'importante chiesa di pellegrinaggio, con due processioni annuali: la tredicesima volta il 16 gennaio e la processione dei cavalli il lunedì di Pasqua.     Intorno all'anno 690 c'erano tre pie vergini ad Hakendover che provenivano dalla stirpe dell'imperatore romano Ottaviano. Queste tre donne decisero – per ispirazione divina – di costruire una chiesa al Divin Salvatore, per il quale nutrivano una speciale venerazione. Quando arrivarono a Hakendover, iniziarono a lavorare in un posto chiamato "Hooibout". Ma la sera gli angeli demolirono di nuovo tutto. Le vergini scelsero allora il luogo chiamato “Steenberg”.
