Il monastero fu fondato da Federico III. von Zollern, burgravio di Norimberga, e sua moglie Elena, duchessa di Sassonia, nel XIII secolo. Una badessa era Anna di Norimberga. Nel 1544 il monastero fu rilevato dal margravio Albrecht Alcibiades. Nel 19° secolo gli edifici del monastero servivano da cava. Il monastero è stato conservato con tutte e quattro le ali, ma è utilizzato per scopi residenziali e commerciali privati. Chiesa e monastero sono iscritti nell'elenco bavarese dei monumenti.
