Embark on an easy hike along the Black Sands Beach via Coastal Trail, a 1.9 miles (3.1 km) route that offers stunning coastal vistas. You will gain 243 feet (74 metres) in elevation, completing the journey in about 58 minutes. The path descends towards Black Sands Beach, where the unique dark sand creates a striking contrast with the ocean. Along the way, you can enjoy panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean and Point Bonita. On clear days, keep an eye out for the Golden Gate Bridge and the San Francisco skyline from various viewpoints.
Before you set out, be aware that the route includes a steep descent to Black Sands Beach, involving a drop of around 250 to 300 feet. The trail itself is a mix of dirt paths and stairs. These sections can be uneven and potentially slippery, especially after rain or during foggy conditions. For your safety and comfort, sturdy shoes with good grip are highly recommended for this hike.
