    Il castello originale fu costruito nel XV secolo da Willem van Berchem. Nel 1542 questo castello fu distrutto da Maarten van Rossum. Pochi anni dopo, Jan van Renesse costruì l'attuale castello e gli annessi. L'architetto era Hendrik Lambrechts. Molti personaggi illustri vennero a far visita, come l'imperatore Carlo V, Guglielmo il Taciturno e Margherita di Parma.

    Nel corso dei secoli successivi il castello fu più volte saccheggiato e utilizzato come residenza per le truppe in guerra. Alla fine cadde in rovina. Nel 1793 il cortile superiore e la fattoria vennero demoliti.
