    La sala di controllo fa parte del sistema di attesa e fossato di terra di Quedlinburg e si trova su uno dei punti più alti (circa 198 metri) di una cresta di arenaria chiamata Altenburg.
    La sala di controllo originaria, a forma di torre rotonda spessa circa cinque metri, risale al XIV o XV secolo. Nel 1889 l'Harz Club costruì sui resti esposti alle intemperie una nuova torre che, dopo diversi restauri, è ora utilizzata come torre di osservazione pentagonale alta dieci metri con una scala a chiocciola, la cui piattaforma è raggiungibile tramite 51 gradini.
