This 2.1 miles (3.4 km) route takes you through diverse landscapes, from fragrant eucalyptus groves to open ridgeline chaparral. As you ascend, you'll gain 649 feet (198 metres) in elevation, and on a clear day, you can spot landmarks like downtown Oakland, the UC Berkeley campus, and even the Golden Gate Bridge. The entire loop can be completed in about 1 hour and 12 minutes, making it a perfect quick escape into nature.
When planning your visit, be aware that parking close to the trailhead can be challenging, particularly if you go on a weekend. Since sections of the trail are exposed to the sun, you might prefer to hike on cooler days to avoid direct sunlight. If you bring your dog along for the adventure, remember that they must be kept on a leash in most areas throughout the route. Always check local regulations before heading out.
