    In documenti del 1272 il castello era già citato come castello con fossato con torre in pietra, fabbricati residenziali e agricoli. Era l'8./9. Secolo fortificazioni slave. Il castello fu costruito su queste fondamenta dopo l'incendio della città nel 1545 sotto il duca Moritz in stile rinascimentale come residenza commerciale e di caccia e fu completato pochi anni dopo sotto l'elettore Augusto come complesso a quattro ali con una cappella tardogotica.

    Il castello fu menzionato per la prima volta nel 1272 come "castrum mulberch". A quel tempo ancora come castello con fossato dei Signori di Ileburg, che proteggeva un valico sull'Elba. ... Nei secoli a venire, il castello ospitò l'amministrazione dell'ufficio di Mühlberg. Il castello fu tribunale distrettuale, carcere e, dal 1859, principale ufficio doganale. Oggi è usato privatamente.
