    La posizione del castello lontano dalle vie del traffico medievale è spiegata dal confine tra il principato di Bayreuth e il vescovado di Bamberg, che corre lungo lo Schorgast.
    Nel 1406 il Burgadel fu menzionato per la prima volta con quelli di Rabenstein zu Wirsberg.
    Il Rabensteiner Schlösslein era una tenuta del castello di Wirsberg che la famiglia ministeriale aveva ricevuto in feudo dai burgravi di Norimberga quell'anno.
    Nel 1489 Kunz von Rabenstein zu Wirsberg fu infeudato al castello, ma era già indicato come burgstall, cioè distrutto o inabitabile.
