La sua funzione era quella di proteggere la locale tonnara da corsari e pirati. Costruito su una scogliera 78 m. sul livello del mare comprendeva due bastioni, un fossato con ponte levatoio, due batterie, una caserma e una cappella. Attualmente è in pessime condizioni.
