    Si dice che nei tempi antichi il Colosso di Rodi si trovasse sopra l'ingresso del porto. La figura in bronzo alta circa 30 m, che raffigurava il dio del sole Helios, era conosciuta come una delle sette meraviglie del mondo. Nacque probabilmente nel III secolo. distrutta da un terremoto prima di Cristo.
