    Il castello fu menzionato per la prima volta nel 1144 in connessione con la fondazione del Monastero di Jerichow. Dopo la riconquista tedesca dell'area, il castello di Jerichow fu ampliato con la pietra. Nel 1769 fu approvata la demolizione della cinta muraria. Il materiale ottenuto è stato utilizzato per costruire una cosiddetta casa della seta. La torre del castello fu demolita all'inizio del XIX secolo. I suoi materiali sono stati utilizzati nel muro del sagrato. Nel 1893 il rilievo del terreno del Burgstall fu livellato e fu creato un parco comunale alberato.

    La collina del castello era accatastata all'inizio del XII secolo in un'antica ansa dell'Elba come un castello collinare a torre di circa 70x90 m con doppio fossato, cinta muraria e torre di difesa all'interno di un più antico rifugio slavo.
    La collina del castello è attualmente in fase di ristrutturazione. Lo stato di 130 anni fa è da restaurare.
