    Dal 1818 la ditta Lutter & Wegner è presente (con interruzioni) in questa sede sul Gendarmenmarkt a Berlino. Il seminterrato ospitava la leggendaria cantina, fondata nel 1835. In questa cantina venivano conservati spumanti e i vini rossi e bianchi più pregiati. Il pub era un ritrovo abituale di E. T. A. Hoffmann e di molte celebrità del passato, come Otto von Bismarck, il principe Federico Guglielmo di Prussia, Heinrich Heine, Claire Waldorf, Friedrich Hollaender e altri.
    Anche il termine “vino spumante” è nato qui.

    Nell'edificio che precede questa casa, all'angolo tra Charlottenstraße e Taubenstraße a Berlino, visse fino alla sua morte il poeta, pittore, compositore e giudice di tribunale E. T. A. Hoffmann. Lì viveva nell'attico all'angolo della strada, che ha un ruolo importante nel suo racconto "La finestra all'angolo del cugino".
    Al piano terra dell'edificio si trova la casa vinicola Lutter & Wegner, fondata nel 1811, dove Hoffmann si recava regolarmente in visita con il suo amico, l'attore Ludwig Devrient.
