Una chiesa fu probabilmente costruita a Radewell già nell'XI secolo per cristianizzare le aree slave a est del Saale.
L'attuale chiesa, edificata intorno al 1150, era inizialmente subordinata al monastero di Magdeburg Moritz, dopo lo scioglimento i possedimenti passarono prima nel 1520 al Nuovo Monastero fondato dal cardinale Albrecht, poi nel 1541 all'ufficio di Giebichenstein.
