    Domande frequenti

What are the typical opening hours and entry fees for Les Gorges du Pont du Diable?

While specific opening hours can vary by season, the gorges are generally accessible during daylight hours. There is an entry fee to access the maintained footbridge and facilities. One visitor noted paying €76 for four adults and one child, indicating it can be a bit pricey for families, but allows for exploration of the gorge for about an hour, with the option to walk through multiple times without extra charge.

Is Les Gorges du Pont du Diable suitable for beginner hikers or those looking for an easy walk?

The intro mentions a "strong difference in level" and suitability for "motivated hikers." While the main path through the gorge is on a well-maintained wooden and metal footbridge, some sections can be challenging due to elevation changes. It's considered family-friendly, but those seeking a very easy, flat walk might find it more strenuous than expected. The experience is more about the immersive gorge walk than a traditional easy hike.

How long does it typically take to explore Les Gorges du Pont du Diable?

Visitors generally spend about an hour walking through the gorge itself. This allows ample time to appreciate the views, the natural features like the "marmites de géants," and the thrilling "Pas du Diable" glass structure. The duration can vary depending on your pace and how much time you spend at viewpoints or the souvenir shop.

Are dogs allowed on the trails and within Les Gorges du Pont du Diable?

The provided information does not explicitly state whether dogs are allowed. It's always best to check the official website or contact the site directly before your visit to confirm their current pet policy, especially given the maintained footbridge and potential for crowds.

What are the parking options available at Les Gorges du Pont du Diable?

There is parking available on-site for visitors. However, during peak season or busy days, parking can fill up quickly. Arriving earlier in the day is often recommended to secure a spot, especially if you plan to visit during summer or on weekends.

Are there any cafes, restaurants, or accommodation options near Les Gorges du Pont du Diable?

Yes, the site provides amenities such as a snack bar and a souvenir shop, which can offer light refreshments. For more substantial meals or accommodation, you would need to look in the nearby towns. The gorges are situated between Thonon-les-Bains and Morzine, both of which offer a range of dining and lodging options.

What is the best time of day or week to visit to avoid crowds?

To avoid the largest crowds, consider visiting on weekdays rather than weekends, and either early in the morning or later in the afternoon. The site can get busy, especially during peak tourist seasons like summer. Visiting outside of school holidays can also lead to a more tranquil experience.

What kind of clothing and footwear should I wear when visiting the gorges?

Given the "strong difference in level" and the nature of walking through a gorge, comfortable and sturdy walking shoes with good grip are highly recommended. Even though there's a footbridge, the surfaces can be damp. Dress in layers, as the gorge can feel cooler and more humid than the surrounding area, and weather conditions can change. A light rain jacket might be useful, as the site is enjoyable even in rainy weather.

Is wild swimming permitted in the Dranse de Morzine river within the gorges?

The Dranse de Morzine river flows through the gorges with tumultuous waters, creating features like "marmites de géants." While beautiful, the environment is primarily for observation from the footbridge. Wild swimming is generally not permitted or safe within the immediate gorge area due to strong currents and dangerous conditions. Always observe local signage and regulations regarding water access.

Can Les Gorges du Pont du Diable be accessed by public transport?

While the gorges are a popular tourist destination, direct public transport links might be limited. It is situated in the commune of La Vernaz, between Thonon-les-Bains and Morzine. It's advisable to check local bus schedules or consider taxi services from these larger towns, as a car is often the most convenient way to reach the site.

Are there guided tours available, or can I explore the gorges independently?

Yes, both options are available. According to visitor tips, on Thursdays and Fridays, you can visit without a guide. On other days, a guided tour might be required or highly recommended. The intro also mentions that guided tours are often available on certain days, while other days allow for self-guided exploration. It's best to check the official site for the most current schedule of guided tours versus independent access.
