Memoria del ciclismo: I corridori hanno raggiunto il Col du Galibier salendo la vecchia strada, oggi quasi impraticabile. Questa vecchia strada molto difficile iniziava due chilometri più in basso dal Col du Lautaret in direzione Briançon, subito a sinistra dopo il ponte sul torrente Galibier. La nuova strada (D 902), è stata aperta nel 1938. Il vecchio rifugio è stato costruito tra il 1870 e il 1880. Il nuovo rifugio è del 1937.
Oggi questa strada è molto piacevole da percorrere.
