    Nel 1654 fu costruita una cappella centrale della grazia con veduta a portale a forma di cupola esagonale. La cappella della grazia a Scherpenheuvel servì da modello. Il vescovo di Roermond consacrò l'altare nel 1663.

    La cappella della grazia sulla piazza della cappella è la meta di tutti i pellegrini di Kevelaer. L'immagine miracolosa "Consolatrix Afflictorum" è custodita nell'edificio a cupola esagonale.
    Già nel 1642, Hendrick Busman collocò l'immagine su un edicola esattamente in questo punto. Fino ad oggi è rimasto invariato al suo posto. L'odierna Cappella della Misericordia è stata costruita intorno all'originale edicola nel 1654 in modo tale che i credenti possano continuare a compiere pellegrinaggi molto vicini all'immagine.
