    L'ospedale ha avuto origine da una casa di riposo per convalescenti costruita dalla società Krupp nel 1897. Nel 1920, gli ospedali Krupp estesi furono aperti anche ai dipendenti non addetti ai lavori.

    A metà degli anni '70 il vecchio edificio dell'ospedale (a parte alcune case prebendarie e la cappella Altenhof) fu demolito. L'attuale ospedale è stato aperto nel 1980.
