    Lo Schwentine è, con i suoi 68 km[3], uno dei fiumi più lunghi dello Schleswig-Holstein. Nasce 1,7 km a sud-ovest del punto più alto dello Stato, il Bungsberg, su un prato primaverile a nord-est del villaggio di Bergfeld (Kasseedorf) e scorre attraverso l'intera Svizzera dell'Holstein con numerosi grandi laghi. Il fiume scorre attraverso le località di Eutin, Bad Malente, Plön, Preetz, Schwentinental (Raisdorf e Klausdorf) e sfocia nel fiordo di Kiel (Mar Baltico) a Kiel, tra i distretti di Neumühlen-Dietrichsdorf e Wellingdorf.

    Proprio accanto alla tenuta c'è lo Schwentine. Era facile usare una canoa o un kayak sotto il ponte. Oggi tutto è stato chiuso con filo e segnaletica - peccato.

    Lo Schwentine scorre attraverso 13 laghi piccoli e grandi nel Parco naturale della Svizzera Holstein (distretto dei laghi dell'Holstein), alcune delle cui sponde formano colline boscose. I dintorni offrono quindi molta varietà per quanto riguarda le escursioni acquatiche. Ci sono molti uccelli acquatici interessanti da vedere e spesso l'aquila di mare. Lo Schwentine scorre tra i laghi come un pittoresco fiumiciattolo che delizia il cuore di ogni canoista. Durante un giro in canoa sullo Schwentine il veicolo può essere trasportato lungo l'intero percorso in treno.
