La Friedrichstrasse corre dritta come un asse nord-sud attraverso il centro di Berlino, nel centro di Berlino. Inizia a nord presso l'Oranienburger Tor a Mitte e termina a Kreuzberg presso Mehringplatz.
Elettore Federico III fece ribattezzare con il suo nome la strada, conosciuta nel XVII secolo come Querstrasse. La strada ha una storia movimentata: fu teatro di numerose risse, luogo di scambio di gemme e oro e centro di prostituzione.
