    La chiesa di San Bernardo fu iniziata nel 1894 e consacrata nel 1895. Era diventato necessario perché nella seconda metà del 19° secolo molti nuovi residenti, soprattutto dalle zone cattoliche, si trasferirono a Lehrte. Il motivo era la costruzione della ferrovia e il conseguente snodo di traffico delle linee Hannover-Berlino e Celle-Hildesheim. Grazie a questo buon collegamento di trasporto, a Lehrte si stabilirono sempre più nuove industrie, che attirarono anche nuovi cittadini a Lehrte.
