The fountain was created in 1913 by the Munich sculptor Adolf von Hildebrand and erected in 1921. It is made of shell limestone and is designed as a heptagonal dome. On top of the fountain stands Siegfried with his sword, which represents the scene of the dragon slayer from the legend.

Worms Cathedral stands on the highest hill in the city. When the town of Borbetomagus was founded in Roman times – there was no previous Celtic settlement in the inner city of Worms – this prominent location was occupied by public buildings. In 1906/07, during renovation work on the cathedral, Roman foundations and findings were discovered in the foundation area. It took until 1938 before Gustav Behrens – who had not taken part in the excavations himself – published them. He interpreted what was found as the Forum of Borbetomagus, a three-aisled basilica with a peristyle (a courtyard surrounded by a covered walkway) to the west. Today, this interpretation is viewed with skepticism. The exposed foundations could also be expanded to form a temple with a cella. During the excavations in 1906/07 and the restoration work on the cathedral, numerous fragments of votive stones and altars were found. In order to explain this finding.

St. Peter's Cathedral in Worms is the smallest and slenderest of the three Rhenish imperial cathedrals. It was essentially built between 1130 and 1181, after Speyer Cathedral (1025–1106). Mainz Cathedral was started 50 years earlier (1081 - although the stair towers are older), but was not completed until almost 70 years later (1239). The Diocese of Worms was gradually dissolved between 1801 and 1827. As a result, Worms Cathedral is no longer a bishop's church, but was given the status of provost church in 1862 and the title of minor basilica in 1925.
