he dam was created in the 1930s by the Edison company to generate electricity for the valley by submerging the town of Morasco , a locality of Walser origin inhabited since the 15th century. Morasco was the main inhabited center of the valley at the time of the construction of the dam and by now uninhabited in the winter months it was instead populated in the summer months corresponding to the period of the mountain pastures.
