The memorial for forced laborers in Dortmund is located on the culture island in the west of Dortmund's Phoenixsee.
It is intended to commemorate the up to 80,000 foreign forced laborers who were exploited in the industrial city of Dortmund during World War II. Around a quarter of these men and women did forced labor at the Dortmund-Hörder Hüttenunion (DHHU).
Pia Emde designed the 4.5 m high monument entitled "Between Light and Shadow".
