Vandring

The Emscher region is changing its face - once again. More than a hundred years ago, a sparsely populated agricultural landscape became an industrial conurbation, and the naturally flowing Emscher became a man-made system of open sewers. With the decline in mining, another structural change has set in, with traditional heavy industry giving way to high technology and the service sector. The end of the subsidence makes it possible in our region to discharge wastewater in closed underground canals and to convert the river with its tributaries step by step into natural waters - a generation project.

Vandring

With industrialization, the Emscher became the cesspool of the Ruhr area. Today it is free of sewage and biodiversity is returning.
