"Wilhelm Harnisch was one of the most important leaders in the field of education at the beginning of the 19th century.
In 1806 he acted as a German-French interpreter between the mayor of Wilsnack and the French occupiers.
In 1808, Harnisch met the founder and creator of German gymnastics, Ludwig Jahn. The two men were friends for years. Both put Pestalozzi's ideas into practice. They helped to create a new educational school out of the "old school" training school.
