The group of bronze figures in front of St. Michael's Cathedral depicts Saint Anthony of Padua (1195 to 1231), a Franciscan friar and important Doctor of the Church, speaking to some children. Anthony's canonization on May 30, 1232, just eleven months after his death, concluded what was, to this day, the shortest canonization process in the history of the Catholic Church.
