The Unity Hall (Sala Unirii) is the site where the Great Union took place on December 1, 1918. Representatives of the Romanians in the disintegrating Kingdom of Hungary gathered here for a national assembly starting November 18. They adopted the "Alba Iulia Resolution," in which they advocated the annexation of Transylvania, the Banat, and other previously Hungarian territories to Romania. This was confirmed in the 1920 Treaty of Trianon. Greater Romania was created. As a symbol of national unity, the hall houses documents and historical objects in an impressive architectural setting.
