The castle has been mentioned since 1020. In 1184, the castle fell to the French crown. In the 16th century, Renée de France, the daughter of King Louis XII and Anne of Brittany, lived here.
Today, only a few castle structures, including the remains of the château, remain. The castle hill now houses a lyceum and boarding school.
