Vandring

The town owes its origins to Švamberk Castle (German: Schwamberg, also Schwanberg), at whose foot it lies. First mentioned in 1227, the castle was the seat of a local noble family of the same name. In the 17th century, it was owned by the royal councilor and land assessor Johann Friedrich von Schwamberg. Due to the carelessness of the watchman, the castle was destroyed by fire in 1644 and never rebuilt. The then owner had the present Church of St. Mary Magdalene built on the site of the old castle chapel.
