The Linnahall was completed as the V.I. Lenin Palace of Culture and Sports for the 1980 Summer Olympics. The games were held in Moscow, and the sailing competitions were held in Tallinn.
Since 1980, the building has been used as a multi-purpose hall for cultural and sporting events. In addition to the main hall (5,000 seats), it included an ice rink and various cafés. Exhibitions were regularly held in the 6,000 m² foyer of the concert hall.
Today, the hall is a lost place, but guided tours of the interior are available.
