On March 31, 1873, Blankenburg station was opened by the Halberstadt-Blankenburg Railway Company (HBE). In the first few years, the station was only served from Halberstadt. The main purpose of the railway was to connect the Blankenburg steelworks to the railway network.

You could take the train from Blankenburg station to Halberstadt, Thale and Oberharz, which is almost unthinkable today
