The Patio de los Leones is one of the most iconic sites in the Alhambra in Granada. Built during the reign of Sultan Muhammad V in the 14th century, this courtyard is famous for its central fountain surrounded by twelve white marble lions.

The marble Lion Fountain is considered one of the most important sculptural achievements of Moorish and Islamic art. The Palace of the Lions with the Lion Fountain itself represents the pinnacle of Nasrid palace architecture. This is why various historians speak of "Nasrid Baroque".
