Klopstock oaks are oaks that commemorate the German poet Friedrich Gottlieb Klopstock (1724 - 1803). Here on Klopstockweg a sign indicates one of these oaks.

What is striking about this oak is its short, broad trunk, which is only about three meters high. Its crown, on the other hand, is quite huge, which at around 24 meters is even bigger than the total height of the tree, which is only 17 meters. Due to the special appearance of the tree, this oak is designated as a natural monument.

Mountainbiking

The imposing, ancient oak tree beneath which Klopstock is said to have composed his 15-verse ode is a popular photo subject for hikers. Following in Klopstock's footsteps, a cobblestone avenue leads to the famous Stintenburg Island.

One wonders: Where is the carriage? At the crossing to the island, on the left, stands the "Bridge House." The bridge keeper used to live here. Standing at a drawbridge, he kept unwelcome guests away from the small island and the count's manor house.
