The Wuppertaler Schwimmoper is a municipal bathing establishment that was built in 1957. The swimming opera has been a listed building since 1995.
The swimming opera was modeled after the Olympic swimming stadium in Melbourne. The suspended roof was constructed as a curved lightweight concrete shell on clamping irons.
Originally an opera was supposed to be built at the location, but it was decided to build a city swimming pool, hence its name.

The swimming opera is one of the architectural jewel of the city. The name comes (presumably) from the design. the raised sides are the grandstands for the short course championships. In any case, the swimming opera is known as a colorful dog and very popular with the Wuppertalers. PLEASURE, because inside the swimming opera can keep up well since the big renovation. A great pool and even a great modern sauna area with an incredibly cheap daily rate of 14 € - typical Wuppertal!
