Cykling
The Dalempoort is the only remaining city gate. Originally, there were four gates. The Kanselpoort, Arkelpoort, and Waterpoort had to make way for the growing traffic. The legend goes that Jan van Arkel could pull himself up, horse and all, using the beams of the Arkelpoort. His nickname was therefore Jan the Strong!
The Dalempoort dates from 1597 and has a small tower with a clock. Today, a footpath runs beneath the gate to the Merwede River. If you follow the path, you have a good view of the city walls and the De Hoop corn mill.
