The mill is a so-called hollow post mill and was used as a polder mill. Together with the Rijswijkse Molen, which burned down in 1907, the Rijswijk and Uitwijk polder was drained. There were seven mills in total. In 1927, the windmill's flight was torn off by a gust of wind, after which it was restored

Mills are so-called 'water seesaw mills'. This is the oldest
well-known type of polder mill in the Netherlands, originated around
1400. The main feature is that the entire upper house
can be rotated around the tube. Shake when the wind blows
or 'bounce' these mills, hence the name.
